Large or small, museums serve their local community and provide opportunities for learning and enjoyment. But often local people do not visit, because they think they are not interested, or because they will go „next week” – and never go.
This workshop looks at ways of consulting with local people to find out their views about the museum, and how they can be involved in its activities. It will also look at ways of demonstrating the value of the museum´s work to the local authority and other funders.
The workshop will be based on case studies about English Heritage and other museums and organisations in England, which have sought the views of local people when planning museum developments. The workshop will be led by Nicola Bell, an experienced museum and heritage consultant. It will provide many practical ideas and techniques which you can use to raise the profile of your museum in your community.
