Interactivity in museums and at heritage sites

We hope nobody will rest at our conference/workshop on Interactivity – in a broad sense -organized by the Foundation for Museums and Visitors and Hungarian Museum of Commerce and Catering. Presentations, lectures, group discussions and workshops will review different ways of involving audience in exhibitions and how can museums have greater influence/impact on their visitors´ attitudes and lives through visitor participation.
Specific objectives of the conference are to:
- systematically review participants´ previous knowledge and experiences on interactivity
- provide new information regarding different forms of interactivity as well as discuss their advantages and disadvantages
- present Hungarian and foreign examples/case studies
- involve participants in directed observation and analyzis of some exhibitions of the host museums and some heritage sites
- work out ideas for developing the examined parts of the exhibitions in question in order to make them more interactive
As a long-term result of the conference we would like to achieve that different professionals (curator, designer, education officers etc.) working together for an exhibition learn about and consider each other´s points from early on in the planning process producing more visitor-friendly exhibitions this way.
Chair of the conference: Imre Kaján, director of Duna Museum in Esztergom; facilitators: Barbara Woroncow, Nicky Boyd, free-lance UK consultants and martin Watts (York Museums Trust) as well as Edit Bárd, Zsuzsanna Batári, Open Air Folk Museum, Szentendre and Imre Kiss, Hungarian Museum of Commerce and Catering. Among the presenters we have Judit Bajzáth (Hungarian Natural History Museum), and János Tari (AVICOM, Museum of Ethnography) and a lot others. We have also included 10-minute presentations offered by participants.

Registration fee: 4000,- Ft (before Sept 30, 2004) ; 5000,-Ft (after Sept 30, 2004), meals 1000,-HUF/day. Some rooms are offered free by the Hungarian National Museum and the Museum of Transport. 1000,-HUF discount from students or staff from foundation or private museums, or two members of staff coming from the same museums can get the same discount together.
